Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 is a 2014 American superhero film directed by James Gunn. The film is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The story follows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a human who was abducted from Earth as a child and raised by a group of alien thieves and smugglers, who calls himself Star-Lord. Quill is on a mission to obtain a mysterious orb, which he plans to sell for a high price. However, he soon finds himself being pursued by a powerful villain named Ronan (Lee Pace) and his henchmen.

During his escape, Quill encounters a group of unlikely allies: Gamora (Zoe Saldana), a deadly assassin and member of Ronan's team; Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a genetically engineered raccoon and weapons expert; Groot (Vin Diesel), a sentient tree-like creature; and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), a powerful warrior seeking revenge against Ronan.

Together, the group, who dub themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy, set out on a journey to stop Ronan from using the orb's power to destroy the galaxy. Along the way, they face various challenges and obstacles, but their unique abilities and unlikely camaraderie helps them to overcome them.

As the Guardians get closer to Ronan and his plans, they also face a revelation that Gamora is also the adopted daughter of Thanos, the villain who is behind Ronan's plans. In the end, the Guardians successfully stop Ronan and his plans, but not before Quill learns that he is only half-human and his father is one of the powerful beings in the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 was a commercial and critical success and praised for its humor, action, and performances, particularly Chris Pratt's portrayal of Star-Lord. The film grossed over $773 million worldwide and has launched two sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
