Michael Dougherty directs Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters, a 2019 American science fiction action film. The film begins with an eco-terrorist kidnapping a team of scientists lead by Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) and her daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown). summon the Titans and cause the apocalypse, believing that the Earth will be better off without mankind.


Meanwhile, the crypto-zoological agency Monarch is tracking the Titans and has been keeping a close eye on Godzilla. When eco-terrorists free King Ghidorah, a giant three-headed dragon, from his freezing prison, the world is thrown into chaos and destruction. The other Titans, including Mothra, Rodan, and the huge spider-like beast Methuselah, are also awoken.

As the Titans cause devastation, the Monarch team attempts to create a strategy to stop them. They turn to Emma for assistance, thinking that she will be able to control the Titans and avert further damage.

Godzilla awakens after his battle with the MUTOs and confronts the Titans in a series of epic confrontations. He battles King Ghidorah, who proves to be a tough antagonist, and is severely wounded. Godzilla, however, is able to recover and slay King Ghidorah with the help of Monarch and the Russell family, sparing the planet from catastrophe.


Following the battle, Monarch seeks to locate and contain the surviving Titans, while Godzilla retreats back into the sea. Emma makes the ultimate sacrifice to rescue the planet, and her daughter Madison decides to stay with Mark and assist him with his job at Monarch.


Jonah Alan (Charles Dance), the commander of the eco-terrorists, is shown to have obtained a severed head of King Ghidorah and wants to use it to develop a weapon to defeat Godzilla at the end of Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters. The film foreshadows the following episode in the saga, "Godzilla vs. Kong."
